During my economics class today, my teacher posed a question: who’s concert would you pay good money to see?  Instantly, I knew my answer- DBSK.

If you don’t know me, you should be aware that I am a huge DBSK lover and I am still trying to get over the split.  😦   Even though I love JYJ and TVXQ, I wish they were together on stage at the same time… singing MIROTIC, Love in the Ice, Wrong Number, etc.  I’m not exactly sure what it is about them that catches my attention, but I have a feeling it’s their charisma and combination of personalities and voices that make them amazing.

Watching YouTube videos of their live performances really makes me sad at times because I know that I will never have the chance to see them together as “DBSK” on stage.  For this reason, I would love if they magically became a band again.  And going back to the original question posed, I would most certainly pay a good amount of money to see this spectacle (if it did happen, but most likely not).

There are just so many songs that they sing that are lovely … but would be so much better if I could see them perform live.  DBSK is one hell of a talented group… they are SME trained, and even though SME is like a slave owner, it pays off in the end!  DBSK can sing so wonderfully and dance so beautifully.  And I’m not going to deny that they are extremely handsome. 🙂

Now, if I were to go to one of their concerts, what songs would I anticipate?  First and foremost, I’d have to choose Love in the Ice because that is just such a passionate song.  If you’ve ever heard it, you know what I’m talking about… I mean Xiah and Jae are just belching their souls out during their solos!  Next, I’d have to pick MIROTIC… only because who does NOT like that song?  That song (and choreography) is setting up an orgasm… no joke.  There are 5 sexy men with their abs teasing you… and then you have Xiah pelvic thrusting at you… And the third song I’d choose is Wrong Number because Jae raps in here and I just can’t miss that during a live show… Jae is just a fantastic singer and on top of that, he raps too… who knew that? 🙂

In essence, I am a die-hard DBSK fan… and always will be- “Always Keep the Faith.” ❤

But what about you?  What musician(s) are you loyal to?  What band/singer’s live performance would be worth your money?  Enlighten me.  😉

Asian Fo Shizzle

Something I’ve realized is that I don’t enjoy rap music… I should clarify, AMERICAN rap music.  But for some reason, I enjoy ASIAN rap music.  *scooby doo moment*  “Say what?!”

That’s right.  When Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, Chris Brown, etc. rap, I can’t take the music!  Rather, I prefer late ’90’s and early 2000’s pop music.  The hardcore rapping is just not my style of music… why?  I really can’t pinpoint something specific, but it’s just not music to my ears.  I think their rapping is just a bunch of words, such as hoe, whore and b*tches, thrown together and said really quickly, and of course the boom boom music in the back allows it to be under the headline of “music.”  But here’s the weird thing… when Asians rap, I like the music?

Take 2PM as an example.  They are a pretty clear example of a Korean rap group.  Listen to this song by 2PM- it’s straight-up rap:

How am I in love with this kind of music???  It’s because it’s sung by Asians… ?  That’s one of the only two differences that I can think of between American rap and Asian rap.  The other difference is that Asians don’t use curse words in their rap songs.

Another song I can’t stop listening to is “Turn It Up” by T.O.P:

I’m telling you, Asian rap is so similar to American rap, yet I like Asian rap and dislike American rap.  And if you take an American rap song and make an Asian artist sing it, I’ll like it- even though I dislike the American version.

Remember that song “With You” by Chris Brown?  Well, I have to admit that I’m not a big fan of Chris Brown and his music… but when I heard Taeyang performing “With You”, I fell in love with the song, even though I still don’t like Chris Brown’s version (the original). =.=

If anything, I’m finding this chuckle-worthy.  🙂

I used to think I was a pop music gal… you know, like how some people roll with rock or country?  I thought I rolled with pop.  But after listening to some Asian music, I found myself a rap gal too- only with Asian rap though.  hehehe~ I bet there are people out there just like me.  ^.<

My theory is that chances are, I like to take style into account… and Asian rappers have a clean-cut style.  Think about it, American rappers like to style themselves in that “pants-half down, golden tooth” look.  But if you know anything about Asian fashion, then you know that even Asian guys are very concerned about their vanity.

Now, isn’t Taeyang (right) more polished-looking?  With all due respect to Fat Joe, Taeyang is very fashionable and that automatically attracts me to him… and his music.

My theory aside, I may never get to the bottom of this, but I must say, I DO really enjoy 2PM, Taeyang, Bigbang and all those other good Korean rappers that I can’t think of at the moment.  🙂

Okay, so Miley Cyrus has a new release, “Can’t Be Tamed.”  Now, her music has never been my cup of tea… and I’ll be honest, I don’t like her… well, her music and acting actually.  But, I won’t elaborate on her stint as her “Hannah Montana” ego.

Rather, I’d like to talk about her new MV “Can’t Be Tamed.”  It all began this morning as I turned on the T.V. to watch my Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, when I decided to see what was on Jump Start (VH1) these days.  The first MV that was on was Miley Cyrus’ new release.  Being curious Koko, I decided to take a peek at what was so fascinating about Miley Cyrus.  I mean, kids wanna BE her and teenagers either love or bash her.  Any who, this MV made me “LOL.”  Really, Miley, a bird?  WTF?  haha~

Throughout this whole MV, she’s… a black bird!  She even has wings in the beginning, and then she dances with claws on her fingers!  This was so weird, it’s like, beyond description.  I just wanted to ask Miley WHAT in the world made her want to be a bird in a MV.  Don’t get me wrong, I get the whole “bird who can’t be tamed” thing… It’s just… she could have done a variety of things… but decided to (or agreed to) be this wacky human bird thing in a cage… and terrify observers as she flapped those fake bird wings around and clawed at people, all the while doing a slutty stripper dance.

It sounds silly, I know…  she was basically a “slutty stripper human bird”- a creature that is vicious and fierce, but also takes a liking to entertaining men… sexually.  WTF?

It’s not just Miley acting weird these days.  Many other artists are creating funky MVs as well.  Going back a few years, we had Britney Spears’ “Gimme More.”  Now, that was bad quality AND whorish.  The camera was all shaky and blurry… and I’m talking about the official MV.  It seriously looked like it came off of some perv’s hidden cam at a whore house!  I was surprised Britney would make such a video… especially after knowing that her shape widened after 2 babies… like… it’s just a given that you should no longer do “sexy dances” after having 2 kids.  No matter how much weight she loses, her body is thick and it’s gross to shake that kind of body on people’s television screens.  I’m not calling her fat or making a statement about weight… but just saying that it is most certainly not modest and that she should be respectful to other people’s eyes.  What did we do to deserve that nasty body and booty shaking?!?!?!?!? 😦

One last person I’ll take about… I just can’t leave her out: Lady GaGa.  You know what, I actually like her music, it’s her MVs that freak me out.  “Poker Face” was all cool… and then it all went downhill from there.  She is someone who is truly, truly “gaga.”  Par exemple, what the f*** is going on in “Alejandro?”  It’s like a mixture of Madonna’s “Vogue” and Lady GaGa’s gaga-ness.  Yea, come to think of it, Lady GaGa is the new generation of Madonna!  She’s just as crazy and outrageous as Madonna was during the ’80s and early ’90s.  Anyways, I don’t even know where to begin with “Alejandro.”  The song itself is very appealing, but… well, the MV is beyond Britney, it’s beyond porn!  😦 I’ll say… her MV makes me speechless… It’s OK GaGa… I’ll accept her craziness~ it’s um… extremely unique.  She’s smart?  She knows how to catch people’s attention?  … so be it controversially, no?  😉

Artist of the Week: Andy Lau

I hope you don’t mind, but I’m gonna introduce the artist of the week a little earlier this week… This week is going to get tough, so I might now get a chance to blog about the artist of the week on Wednesday.  In turn, I’ll do it now, while I do have time!

So if you haven’t noticed, this week, I would like to introduce you to 劉德華 Andy Lau.  Like last week’s artist, Andy is also cantonese.  Only difference from past artists of the week is that he is an older generation singer.  Like I said before, I like to listen to a variety of music, so I want you to be able to enjoy a variety of chinese music as well.  That is why we have Mr. Lau this week!  By the way, when I say he’s older generation, I mean my parents are near his age…  Nevertheless, his age should not make you like him any less.  He is a classic in the asian music industry.  It’s like… when people are obsessed with Phil Collins in America.  Well, think of Andy Lau as the Phil Collins of Asia.

I’m not gonna lie.  I don’t really know much background info on Andy, but I do know that he was also in many classic movies, such as Return of the Condor Heroes, House of Flying Daggers, and Infernal Affairs.  Andy Lau is also one of the 四大天王 Cantopop Four Heavenly Kings.  Yes, that is a compliment for him.  I think the other three are Jacky Cheung (another classic, but I’ll save him for another day), Aaron Kwok, and Leon Lai.

But anyways, take the time to listen to some Andy Lau songs, the mandarin and cantonese ones, and to watch some of his movies, which are considered great classics.  If you are interested in asian culture, he’s a major star you just can’t overlook.

For the last two weeks, I’ve been introducing popular taiwanese artists.  I hope you won’t mind, but this week, I’ll be introducing a popular Hong Kong group, Twins.  Twins is a female Cantopop duo created in 2001.  The duo is made up of 蔡卓妍 Charlene Choi and 鍾欣桐 Gillian Chung.  They’ve actually released quite a bit of albums (too many for me to remember and list here!) and are very popular in China, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, U.S., Canada, and Australia.

What originally attracted me to their music was the fact that they sing a variety of songs (including in mandarin and cantonese) and are in sync with each other.  The tone their voices create together is just absolutely soothing to listen to.  So, if you haven’t already, go take a listen to their songs.  I can almost guarantee you’ll fall in love with Twins. 😉

Here’s the unfortunate news… there were actually rumors about Twins breaking up for the past year or so.  The drama was due to Gillian being involved in the Edison Chen Scandal.  The bad publicity, unfortunately, put Charlene in the spotlight too and gave Twins a scratch on its reputation.  But so far, it does not seem like Twins will split anytime soon.  😀

So, on a happier note, check out these songs (recommended by me):

And here’s a mini photo album of Twins:
